Hard Shine - The New Show on the Block
Okay we have a new car show on air!
Hard Shine is what is called on TLC. The host is a builder known as Jimmy Shine that works for SoCal Speed Shop in California, the standard mecha for salt flat racers for many years now.
Now what always drives me nuts is when there is these “opportunity to join the big leagues” shows is how they seem to pick people that like to waste opportunities. I guess it is hard to tell when someone is feeding you a line of crap, but this one girl on the show bailed after the first day!
The frustrating thing, she didn’t like the idea of cutting her nails… come on.
Anyways, I’m going to stay a little positive here, because, I am really impressed with the show so far.
Reason one, they tell you how expensive these things can be. The first deuce coupe the newbies got to work on had a paint job that was worth $30,000 USD alone. Luckily up here in Canada we don’t have all of the strict regulations like they have in California on paints or it would be about the same up here. But even still, $10,000 CAD for paint alone is common. Metal restoration and paint to show can easily hit $30,000.
Secondly, the host is down to earth and comes from actually doing the work. That is always a big plus in my books.
As to educational, well not really so far, but that is not the point of the show. It is more the journey these rookies go through and if they will survive to the end and get a full-time job working with SoCal.
All-in-all, I recommend checking it out. For show times in your local area check out: http://turbo.discovery.com/hard-shine/hard-shine.html
Cheers
