The 1969 Mustang Coupe project has come back from paint and is looking like it will be a very mean looking machine when it’s done. Of course with all dark color cars the true beauty of them isn’t apparent until all of the chrome has been put on, but that will be very soon!

I don’t know if you’re like me, but as a child there were two things that led me into the custom car world.

The first was a natural ability when it came to art and enjoying the artistic side of hot rods and radical customs.

The second was my Father being an auto mechanic and building his own hot rods as a hobby, which in later years we started to make into a business.

Well we’ve all seen the shows and most of the larger shops have a graphic artist or sketch artist that does a mock-up version of a car before it is built. Chip Foose is famous for doing this on the Overhaulin’ show.

Hard Shine is what is called on TLC. The host is a builder known as Jimmy Shine that works for SoCal Speed Shop in California, the standard mecha for salt flat racers for many years now.

Now what always drives me nuts is when there is these “opportunity to join the big leagues” shows is how they seem to pick people that like to waste opportunities. I guess it is hard to tell when someone is feeding you a line of crap, but this one girl on the show bailed after the first day!

Okay, so if you haven’t heard of the show American Chopper on TLC then you have been living under a very large rock.

If not, hey it happens, that is what I’m here for… American Chopper is a reality TV show that showcases the shop in Orange County, NY known as Orange County Choppers and specialize in the creation of custom motorcycles.

http://www.orangecountychoppers.com/

Their success over recent years has allowed them to develop a large merchandising line, production motorcycles, and design and build “theme bikes” for some of the largest companies in North America.

Last week was one of those companies… Intel. Now if you’re reading this, you probably have some sense of technology and recognize the name. If not, they pretty much build microchips for almost all of the computer and technology systems out there.

Well Paul Jr. who usually does all of the site tours for designing the bikes was too sick to go to Intel. So Paul Sr. and Mikey decided to go instead.

Mikey being who Mikey is, while doing the tour he decided to smash 500 processors all over the floor of Intel. What is that, about $50,000 USD in the retail market?? Thanks Mikey!

After seeing that, if I was a company looking to build a bike with OCC, I wouldn’t be inviting Mikey to come along…

For all of those that don’t know, Unique Whips is a reality TV show that showcases the shop known as Unique Autosports in Holbrook, NY. They specialize in the customization of newer automobiles and they have a very big A-list of celebrities on their client roster.

By customization they focus primarily on audio/video and wheels and tires, although recently they have started to do their own custom paint work.

Well in keeping touch with what is going on, I was checking out the show Unique Whips which airs on the Speed Channel and for the past few months all I have seen is constant repeats.

I’m starting to wonder if Speed Channel is busy in the editing room on new shows or everyone is on summer holidays. The most recent show I have seen was where they had a large celebration BBQ episode and the boys from the G-Unit were coming down to the shop to pick up some of their cars and do a photo shoot.

Now I have to say I’m not a huge fan of the show, but I do like to see some of the new trends coming out in the custom auto market. I’d also love to get some clients like that into our custom hot rod shop! I digress…

Hopefully there will be some new shows soon as it is one of the programs I will be watching and writing my opinions on. Nothing worse than writing opinions on reruns…

Cheers
